Set of 4 size 10 mm (U.S. 15) double-pointed knitting needles or size needed to obtain gauge. Cable needle.

GAUGE

11 sts and 14 rows = 4" [10 cm] in stocking st.

INSTRUCTIONS

The instructions are written for Child size. If changes are necessary for Woman size the instructions will be written thus ( ).
Cast on 54 (60) sts. Divide sts on 3 needles: 18 (20) sts on each needle. Join in rnd, placing a marker on first st.
1st rnd: (RS). *K1. P1. Rep from * around.
Rep last rnd of (K1. P1) ribbing for 1 1/2" [4 cm], inc 6 sts evenly across last rnd. 60 (66) sts. Place marker at end of last rnd.

Proceed in pat as follows:
1st to 4th rnds: *K4. P2. K2 (3). P2. Rep from * around.
5th rnd: *C4B. P2. K2 (3). P2. Rep from * around. Rep last 5 rnds for pat until work from marker measures approx 4 (5)" [10 (12.5) cm], ending on a 5th rnd of pat.

Shape top:
1st rnd: *K4. P2tog. K2 (3). P2. Rep from * around. 54 (60) sts.
2nd rnd: *K4. P1. K2 (3). P2tog. Rep from * around. 48 (54) sts.
3rd rnd: *K4. P1. K2tog. K0 (1). P1. Rep from * around. 42 (48) sts.
