MATERIALS

Size 4½ mm (U.S. 7) knitting needles or size needed to obtain tension. One 16 ins [40.5 cm] square pillow form. 5 buttons

GAUGE

20 sts and 26 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] in stocking st.

INSTRUCTIONS

 

FRONT

**With MC, cast on 78 sts.
1st row: (Right side). Knit.
2nd row: Purl.
3rd and 4th rows: Knit.
These 4 rows form pat.**
Cont in pat until work from beg measures 12¼ ins [31 cm] ending with a 2nd row. Break MC.
Change to A and proceed in garter st (knit every row) for 3¾ ins [9.5 cm]. Cast off.

BACK
Work as for given for Front from ** to **.
Cont in pat until work from beg measures 16 ins [40.5 cm].
Place markers at each end of last row.
Cont even in pat until work from markers measures 3¾ ins [9.5cm] ending with a 2nd row. Cast off.

FINISHING
Sew cast on and cast off edges of Front and Back tog. Sew bottom edge lapping contrast strip of Front over Back. Sew buttons onto contrast strip through both thick-nesses as illustrated. Insert pillow form. Sew rem seam.
