GAUGE

18 sts and 24 rows = 4" [10 cm] in stocking st.

INSTRUCTIONS

Cast on 82 sts.
1st row: (RS). K2. *P2. K2. Rep from * to end of row.
2nd row: P2. *K2. P2. Rep from * to end of row.
Rep last 2 rows of (K2. P2) ribbing for 5½" [14 cm], ending with a WS row.
Shape top: 1st row: (RS). K1. (ssk. Rib across 16 sts. K2tog) 4 times. K1. 74 sts.
2nd and alt rows: Knit all knit sts and purl all purl sts as they appear.
3rd row: K1. (ssk. Rib across 14 sts. K2tog) 4 times. K1. 66 sts.
5th row: K1. (ssk. Rib across 12 sts. K2tog) 4 times. K1. 58 sts.
7th row: K1. (ssk. Rib across 10 sts. K2tog) 4 times. K1. 50 sts.
9th row: K1. (ssk. Rib across 8 sts. K2tog) 4 times. K1. 42 sts.
