MATERIALS

Classic Wool Roving (100 g/3.5 oz;109 m/120 yds)
Main Color (MC) Natural (77010) 1
Contrast A Pacific Teal (77203) 1
Sizes 5 mm (U.S. 8) and 6 mm (U.S. 10) circular knitting needles 20" [50 cm] long. Set of 4 size 6 mm (U.S. 10) double-pointed knitting needles or size needed to obtain tension. Stitch marker.

GAUGE

15 sts and 20 rows = 4" [10 cm] with larger needles in stocking st.

INSTRUCTIONS



Note: When working chart, carry yarn not in use loosely across WS of work but never over more than 5 sts. When it must pass over more than 5 sts, weave it over and under color in use on next st at center point of sts it passes over. The colors are never twisted around one another.

With smaller circular needle and MC, cast on 76 sts loosely. Join in rnd, placing marker on first st.
1st rnd: *K2. P2. rep from * around.
Rep last rnd of (K2. P2) ribbing 7 times more.

Next rnd: K3. M1. *K10. M1. rep from * to last 3 sts. K3. 84 sts.

Change to larger circular needle and knit 2 rnds even.

Beg working Chart, reading rows from right to left, noting 14-st rep will be worked 6 times, until 15 rows of Chart have been completed.

With MC only, knit even in rnds until hat from beg measures 7" [18 cm].

Shape top: 1st rnd: *K19. K2tog. rep from * around. 80 sts.
2nd and alt rnds: Knit.
3rd rnd: *K8. K2tog. rep from * around. 72 sts.
5th rnd: *K7. K2tog. rep from * around. 64 sts.
7th rnd: *K6. K2tog. rep from * around. 56 sts.
9th rnd: *K5. K2tog. rep from * around. 48 sts.
11th rnd: *K4. K2tog. rep from * around. 40 sts.
13th rnd: *K3. K2tog. rep from * around. 32 sts.
14th rnd: *K2. K2tog. rep from * around. 24 sts.
15th rnd: *K1. K2tog. rep from * around. 16 sts.
16th rnd: *K2tog. rep from * around. 8 sts.
Break MC, leaving a long end. thread end through rem sts and fasten securely.
