Inc1 = Increase 1 stitch by knitting into front and back of next stitch

k2tog = Knit next 2 stitches together.

Popcorn = 5 dc in next st. Remove hook and insert in first dc of group, catch loop of last dc and draw through first dc, making sure that popcorn lies on right side of work.

RS = right side

Sizes 6 mm (U.S. 10) and 6.5 mm (U.S. 10 1/2) knitting needles or size needed to obtain tension. 1 stitch holder.

GAUGE

14 sts and 19 rows = 4” [10 cm] in stocking st with larger needles.

INSTRUCTIONS

The instructions are written for smallest size. If changes are necessary for larger sizes the instructions will be written thus ( ). Numbers for each size are shown in the same color throughout the pattern. When only one number is given in black, it applies to all sizes.

BACK
**With smaller needles, cast on 62 (70-74-82-94-106) sts.
1st row: (RS). *K2. P2. Rep from * to last 2 sts. K2.
2nd row:
*P2. K2. Rep from * to last 2 sts. P2. Rep last 2 rows (K2. P2) ribbing for 2 1/2" [6 cm], ending on a 2nd row and inc 1 (1-3-3-3-5) st(s) evenly across last row. 63 (71-77-85-97-111) sts.

Change to larger needles and proceed in stocking st until work from beg measures 13 (13-13-14-14-14)" [33 (33-33-35.5-35.5- 35.5) cm], ending on a purl row.

Shape armholes: Cast off 5 (7-8-8-11-15) sts beg next 2 rows. 53 (57-61-69-75-81) sts.**

Sizes XL, 2/3XL and 4/5XL only: Dec 1 st at each end of next 4 rows. (61-67-73) sts.

All sizes: Dec 1 st each end of next and every following alt row 4 (5-6-4-6-7) times more. 43 (45-47-51-53-57) sts. Cont even until armhole measures 8 (8 1/2-9-9-9 1/2-9 1/2)" [20.5 (21.5-23-23-24.5-24.5) cm], ending on a purl row.

With RS facing, slip next st (center st) onto safety pin. Join yarn to rem sts. ssk. Knit to last 2 sts. K2tog.

FINISHING
Sew right shoulder seam.

V-neckband: With RS facing and smaller needles, pick up and knit 36 (36-38-38-40-40) sts down left front neck edge. K1 from safety pin (place marker for center st). Pick up and knit 36 (36-38-38-40-40) sts up right front neck edge. K23 (23-25-25-27-27) from back neck st holder, dec 1 st at center. 95 (95-101-101-107-107) sts.
1st row: (WS). (P2. K2) 14 (14-15-15-16-16) times. P2tog. P1 (center st). P2tog. *K2. P2. Rep from * to last 2 (2-0-0-2-2) sts. K2 (2-0-0-2-2).
2nd row: Rib to 3 sts before center st. P1. P2tog. K1 (center st). P2tog. P1. Rib to end of row.
3rd row: Rib to 2 sts before center st. K2tog. P1 (center st). K2tog. Rib to end of row.
Rep last 2 rows once more. Cast off in ribbing, dec as before.
Sew left back shoulder and neckband seam.

Armbands: With RS facing and smaller needles, pick up and knit 66 (70-78-78-86-90) sts evenly across armhole edge. Beg on a 2nd row, work 5 rows in (K2. P2) ribbing as given for Back. Cast off in ribbing. Sew side and armband seams.
