k2tog = Knit next 2 stitches together.

P2(3)tog = Purl next 2(3) stitches together

rem = remain(ing)

rep = repeat

RS = right side

ssk = Slip next 2 stitches knitwise one at a time. Pass them back onto left-hand needle, then knit through back loops together.

st(s) = stitch(es)

WS = wrong side

Contrast A Red (00095) 1
Contrast B White (00001) 1
Size 4.5 mm (U.S. 7) knitting needles or size needed to obtain gauge. 1 stitch marker.


20 sts and 26 rows = 4" [10 cm] in stocking stitch.


With A, cast on 37 sts.
Knit 4 rows, noting 1st row is WS.
Next row: (WS). K2. Purl to last 2 sts. K2.
Next row: Knit.
Rep last 2 rows until piece from beg measures 4" [10 cm], ending on a WS row.
With B, knit 2 rows. Place marker on last row. Break B.
With A, proceed as follows:
Next row: Knit.
Next Row:: K2. Purl to last 2 sts. K2.

Beg roof shaping: 1st row: K1. ssk. Knit to last 3 sts. K2tog. K1.
2nd row: Purl.
Rep last 2 rows 5 times more. 25 sts.
Next row: K1. ssk. Knit to last 3 sts. K2tog. K1.
Next row: P1. P2tog. Purl to last 3 sts. P2togtbl. P1.
Rep last 2 rows 4 times more. 5 sts.
Next row: ssk. K1. K2tog.
Next row: P3tog. Fasten off, thread end through rem loop and fasten securely.

With RS facing and B, pick up and knit 17 sts from marked row to top of roof, 2 sts at top and 17 sts down other side back to marked row. 36 sts.
Cast off loosely knitwise (WS).

With B, embroider Barn door using chain stitch as shown in picture, working approx 11 sts in from each side edge.
