Gorgeously cabled armwarmer and mittens set. Arm warmer sizes S-L (upper arm 12-18in/30.5-45.5cm). Mittens: one size. Shown in Patons Classic Wool #00202 Aran. 4mm (US 6) & 4.5mm (US 7) straight & double-pointed needles. Cable needle.

Abbreviations

C2B = Knit into back of 2nd st on left-hand needle, then knit first stitch, slipping both stitches off needle at same time

C2F = Knit into back of 2nd stitch on left-hand needle, then knit into front of 1st stitch, slipping both stitches off needle together.

C4B = Slip next 2 stitches onto cable needle and leave at back of work. K2, then K2 from cable needle

C4F = Slip next 2 stitches onto cable needle and leave at front of work. K2, then K2 from cable needle

C6B = Slip next 3 stitches onto cable needle and leave at back of work. K3, then K3 from cable needle.

KB1 = Knit next stitch into back loop.

M1 = Make 1 stitch by picking up horizontal loop lying before next stitch and knitting into back of loop.

Change to larger needles and proceed as follows:
1st row: (RS). Rib 11 (19-27) sts. Work 1st row of Panel Pat A. C2B. Work 1st row of Panel Pat C. C2F. Work 1st row of Panel Pat B. Rib to end of row.
2nd row: Knit all knit sts and purl all purl sts as they appear.

Next row: (P1. K1) 12 (15-19) times. P1. Cast on 1 st. Rib to end of row. Work in (K1. P1) ribbing for next 4 rows. Cast off in rib. 51 (63-79) sts.

MITTENS
RIGHT MITTEN

**With set of 4 double pointed smaller needles, cast on 36 sts. Divide sts onto 3 needles (12 sts on each needle). Join in rnd. Place marker on first st.
1st rnd: (RS). *K1. P1. Rep from * around.
Rep last rnd of (K1. P1) ribbing for 2½ ins [6 cm].**

Change to larger needles and proceed as follows:
1st rnd: K7. (M1. K1) 4 times. Knit to end of rnd. 40 sts.
2nd rnd: K5. Work 1st row in Panel Pat E. Knit to end of rnd.
Panel Pat E is now in position.
Work in pat for 7 rnds more.

Shape thumb gusset: 1st rnd: Pat 22 sts. Inc 1 st in each of next 2 sts. Knit to end of rnd.
2nd and alt rnds: Work even in pat.
3rd rnd: Pat 22 sts. Inc 1 st in next st. K2. Inc 1 st in next st. Knit to end of rnd.
5th rnd: Pat 22 sts. Inc 1 st in next st. K4. Inc 1 st in next st. Knit to end of rnd.
Cont in same manner, inc 2 sts on every following alt rnd to 50 sts.
Next rnd: Pat 22 sts. Cast on 2 sts. Slip next 12 sts onto safety pin (thumb opening). Knit to end of rnd.

3rd rnd: Sl1. K1. psso. Pat 16 sts. K2tog. Sl1. K1. psso. K12. K2tog.
5th rnd: Sl1. K1. psso. Pat 14 sts. K2tog. Sl1. K1. psso. K10. K2tog.
Cont in same manner, dec 4 sts on every following alt rnd, to 24 sts.
Next rnd: Sl1. K1. psso. K1. (K2tog) 4 times. K1. K2tog. Sl1. K1. psso. K6. K2tog. 20 sts. Rearrange 10 sts on each of 2 needles. Graft 2 sets of 10 sts.

Thumb: Pick up and knit 2 sts at base of thumb. K12 from safety pin. Divide these 14 sts onto 3 needles.
Knit 14 rnds.
Next rnd: [(K1. K2tog) twice. K1] twice. 10 sts Next rnd: (K2tog) 5 times. 5 sts.
Break yarn leaving a long end. Thread end through rem 5 sts. Draw up and fasten securely.***

LEFT MITTEN
Work from ** to ** as given for Right Mitten.

Change to larger needles and proceed as follows:
1st rnd: K25. (M1. K1) 4 times. Knit to end of rnd. 40 sts.
2nd rnd: K23. P2. Work 1st row in Panel Pat E. P2. Knit to end of rnd.
Panel Pat E is now in position.
Work in pat for 7 rnds more.

Shape thumb gusset: 1st rnd: Pat 17 sts. Inc 1 st in each of next 2 sts. Knit to end of rnd.
2nd and alt rnds: Work even in pat.
3rd rnd: Pat 17 sts. Inc 1 st in next st. K2. Inc 1 st in next st. Knit to end of rnd.
5th rnd: Pat 17 sts. Inc 1 st in next st. K4. Inc 1 st in next st. Knit to end of rnd.
