Proceed in stripe pat as follows:
Work 6 rows in stocking st.
7th to 9th rows: Knit.
10th row: Purl.
11th and 12th rows: Knit.
These 12 rows form stripe pat.
Rep these 12 rows 17 times more dec 4 sts evenly across last row. 75 sts. Place marker at each end of row.
Work 1st to 6th rows once more.
Cast off.

Fold cast off edge of cushion to wrong side at markers and sew into position thus forming a hem.
Sew side seams leaving cushion flap open.
With right side of work facing pick up and knit 38 sts along one edge of cushion flap.
Next row: Knit.
Work picot cast off as follows: Cast off 2 sts. *Slip st on right hand needle onto left hand needle. Cast on 2 sts. Cast off 4 sts. Rep from * to end of row. Break yarn and thread through rem st.
Rep for 2nd side.
Make button loop on point of flap as illustrated.
Tassel: Cut a piece of cardboard 8 ins [20.5 cm] wide. Wind yarn around cardboard 30 times. Break yarn leaving a long end and thread end through a needle. Slip needle through all loops and tie tightly. Remove cardboard and wind yarn tightly around loops ¾ ins [2 cm] below fold. Fasten securely. Cut through rem loops and trim ends evenly. Sew tassel to front of cushion as illustrated. Insert pillow form and pull tassel through button loop.
