Size 4 mm (U.S. G or 6) crochet hook or size needed to obtain tension.

GAUGE

17 sc and 20 rows = 4" [10 cm].

INSTRUCTIONS

Note: Band is worked sideways.
Band: With MC, ch 29.
1st row: (RS). Yoh and draw up a loop in 4th ch from hook. Yoh and draw through 2 loops on hook. (Yoh and draw up a loop in next ch. Yoh and draw through 2 loops on hook) twice. Yoh and draw through all loops on hook – counts as dc and dc3tog. *1 dc in each of next 3 ch. 5 dc in next ch. 1 dc in each of next 3 ch.* (Yoh and draw up a loop in next ch. Yoh and draw through 2 loops on hook) twice. Miss next ch. (Yoh and draw up a loop in next ch. Yoh and draw through 2 loops on hook) twice. Yoh and draw through all loops on hook – counts as dc4tog over 5 sts. Rep from * to *once more. (Yoh and draw up a loop in next ch. Yoh and draw through 2 loops on hook) 3 times. Yoh and draw through all loops on hook – counts as dc3tog. 1 dc in last ch. Turn.
2nd row: Ch 1. 1 sc in first dc. Scfp around each st to end of row. Turn.
3rd row: Ch 3. Dc3tog. *1 dc in each of next 3 sc. 5 dc in next sc. 1 dc in each of next 3 sc.* Dc4tog over 5 sc. Rep from * to * once more. Dc3tog. 1 dc in last sc. Turn.
Rep last 2 rows of Zig-Zag pat until work from beg across side edge measures approx 22" [56 cm], ending with 2nd row. Fasten off. Sew foundation chain and last row tog.

Top of Hat: 1st rnd: With RS facing, join A with sl st at back seam. Ch 2 (does not count as hdc). Work 88 hdc evenly around edge of Band. Join
with sl st to first hdc.
2nd rnd: Ch 1. Scbp in each hdc around. Join with sl st to first st.
3rd rnd: Ch 1. *1 sc in each of next 9 sts. Sc2tog. Rep from * around. Join with sl st to first sc. 80 sts.
4th rnd: Ch 1. *1 sc in each of next 8 sts. Sc2tog. Rep from * around. Join with sl st to first sc. 72 sts.
5th rnd: Ch 1. *1 sc in each of next 7 sts. Sc2tog. Rep from * around. Join with sl st to first sc. 64 sts.
Cont in same manner, dec 8 sts on every rnd, until there are 16 sts. Fasten off, leaving a long end. Thread end through rem sts. Pull tightly. Fasten securely.

Bottom edging: With RS facing, join A with sl st at back seam. Ch 1. Work 90 sc evenly around bottom edge of Band. Join with sl st to first sc. Fasten off.

Looped Cord: *With MC, ch 36. Join with sl st to first ch, sl st in each ch around. Rep from * 7 times more. Fasten off. Attach Looped Cord to top of Hat.
