Size 6 mm (U.S. J or 10) crochet hook or size needed to obtain tension. Pair of 12 ins [30.5 cm] wooden handles. Matching smooth yarn for sewing seams. Large eye tapestry needle for weaving.

GAUGE

8 sc and 8 rows = 4 ins [10 cm].

INSTRUCTIONS

 

FRONT and BACK (make alike)

Ch 21.
Foundation row: (WS). 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each ch to end of ch. Turn. 20 sc.
1st row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Turn.
2nd row: Ch 3 (counts as dc). 1 dc in next sc. *2 dc in next sc. 1 dc in next sc. Rep from * to end of row. Turn. 29 dc.
3rd row: Ch 3 (counts as dc). 1 dc in each of next 3 dc. *2 dc in next dc. 1 dc in each of next 3 dc. Rep from * to last st. 1 dc in last st. Turn. 35 dc.
4th row: Ch 3 (counts as dc). 1 dc in each dc to end of row. Turn.
Rep last row until work from beg measures 8½ ins [21.5 cm], ending with RS facing for next row.
Place markers on side edges 7½ ins [19 cm] up from foundation row.
Next row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each of first 3 dc. *Draw up a loop in each of next 2 sts. Yoh and draw through all loops on hook – Sc2tog made. 1 sc in each of next 2 dc. Rep from * to end of row. Turn. 27 sts.
Next row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Turn.
Next row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each of first 2 sc. *Sc2tog over next 2 sts. 1 sc in each of next 3 sc. Rep from * to end of row. Turn. 22 sts.
Next row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Turn. Place second set of markers at each end of row.
Next 3 rows: Ch 3 (counts as dc). 1 dc in each st to end of row. 22 sts. Turn.
Next row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each dc to end of row. Fasten off.

FINISHING
With matching smooth yarn, sew one side seam from foundation row to first set of markers. Taking 2 strands of A tog, thread through tapestry needle and weave 48 ins [122 cm] lengths of yarn through every 3rd dc past each RS row taking care to not weave too tightly.
Join new lengths at sides of Bag darning ends in securely.
Sew bottom and rem side seam to first set of markers. Fold top of bag through handles and sew upper edge to inside of Bag along second marked row.
