Size US G-6 (4mm) crochet hook or size to obtain gauge. Stitch markers. Yarn needle.

GAUGE

15 dc and 7 rows = 4”/10cm.

INSTRUCTIONS

NOTE 
Front and Back are made separately then joined at the shoulders. Sleeves are worked down from the top.
 
BACK
Using MC, ch 46 (50, 54, 58, 62). Dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across—44 (48, 52, 56, 60) dc, turn.
Next row Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), dc in each st across.
Work even in dc until Back measures 8.5 (9.5, 10, 11, 11.5)"/ 21.5 (24, 25.5, 28, 29)cm from beginning. Place markers at each end for sleeve placement.
Continue even in dc until Back measures 14 (15, 16, 17, 18)"/35.5 (38, 40.5, 43, 45.5)cm from beginning. Fasten off.
 
FRONT
Work same as for Back until Front measures 12 (13, 14, 15, 16)"/30.5 (33, 35.5, 38, 40.5) cm from beginning.
 
Shape left front neck
Next row (RS) Work 12 (14, 16, 18, 20) sts, dc2tog in next 2 sts, turn—13 (15, 17, 19, 21) sts. 
Next row Ch 3, dc2tog, dc to end, turn. 
Next row Ch 3, dc to last 2 sts, dc2tog in last 2 sts, turn. 
Next row Ch 3, dc2tog, dc to end—10 (12, 14, 16, 18) sts.  
Fasten off, leaving yarn to seam shoulder.
 
Shape right front neck
Next row (RS) At Front neck edge, skip 16 sts, join yarn, ch 3, dc2tog, dc to end, turn—13 (15, 17, 19, 21) sts. 
Next row Ch 3, dc to last 2 sts, dc2tog in last 2 sts, turn. 
Next row Ch 3, dc2tog, dc to end. 
Next row Ch 3, dc across to last 2 sts, dc2tog in last 2 sts, turn—10 (12, 14, 16, 18) sts.  
Fasten off, leaving yarn to seam shoulder.
Sew shoulder seams.
 
Neck edging
Using MC, work 1 round sc around neck opening.
 
SLEEVES
With RS facing, join yarn to Sleeve placement marker, ch 3, work 37 (39, 41, 43, 47) dc between markers—38 (40, 42, 44, 48) dc. 
Work in dc, working dc2tog at each end of every RS row 7 (6, 7, 8, 9) times—24 (24, 28, 28, 30) sts. Work even until Sleeve measures 8.5 (10, 11.5, 13, 14)"/21.5 (25.5, 29, 33, 35.5) cm from beginning. Fasten off.
 
FINISHING
Sew side and sleeve seams. Using yarn needle, weave in ends.
 
OWL
Eyes (make 2)
Using MC, ch 3, sl st into first ch to make center circle.
Round 1 Ch 3, 2 dc into ring, ch 1, (3 dc into ring, ch 1) 3 times, sl st to top of ch 3. Cut MC.
Round 2 Sl st CC  to top of first dc, ch 3, 2 dc in same st, ch 1, (3 dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, skip 1 dc, 3 dc in next dc, ch 1), 3 times, 3 dc in last ch-1 sp, ch 1, sl st top of ch 3. Cut CC.
 
Eyebrow
Join MC to ch-1 sp of one eye, sc in each of next 12 sts, sc across 13 sts of 2nd eye, joining in ch-1 sp. Cut MC.
Join CC to RS of eyebrow, ch 4, tr in next st, *dc in next 2 sts, hdc in next 2 sts, sc in next 2 sts, hdc in next 2 sts, dc in next 2 sts, tr in next 2 sts,  repeat from * across 2nd eyebrow. Cut CC.
 
Lower eyes and beak
Join MC to next ch-1 sp below eyebrow, sc in next 8 sts, ch 3, yo, insert hook in next st, pull up loop, yo, pull through 2 loops, yo twice, insert hook in next st, pull up loop, (yo, pull through 2 loops) twice, yo twice, insert hook into matching st on 2nd eye, pull up loop, (yo, pull through 2 loops) twice, (yo, insert hook in next st, pull up loop, yo, pull through 2 loops) twice, yo, pull through all 6 loops, ch 3, sc in same st as last one worked, sc in next 7 sts. Cut MC.
 
Body
Join CC to first sc of MC under eye. 
Row 1 (RS) Ch 3, dc in each of next 6 sts, ch 2, sl st in back loop of center beak st, ch 2, dc in next 7 sts, turn.
Row 2 Ch 4, skip 1 st, sc in next st, (ch 3, skip 1 st, sc in next st) twice, ch 3, skip 5 beak sts, sc in next st, (ch 3, skip 1 st, sc in next st) 3 times, turn.
Row 3 Ch 1, sc in ch-3 sp, (ch 3, sc in ch-3 sp) 6 times, sc in turning ch, turn.
Row 4 Ch 3, sc in ch-3 sp, (ch 3, sc in ch-3 sp) 5 times, ch 3, sc in turning ch, turn.
Repeat Rows 3 & 4 until body measures 4"/10cm from lower eye. Fasten off.
Sew Owl to center Front of sweater.
