13 sc and 15 rows = 4 ins [10 cm].

INSTRUCTIONS

Towel Topper
With MC, ch 7.
1st row: (RS). 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each ch to end of ch. Turn. 6 sc.
2nd row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Turn.
3rd row: As 2nd row.
4th row: (Buttonhole row). Ch 1. 1 sc in each of first 2 sc. Ch 2. Miss next 2 sc. 1 sc in each of next 2 sc. Turn.
5th row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each st or ch to end of row. Turn.
Rep last row until work from beg measures 5 ins [12.5 cm] ending with RS facing for next row.
Proceed as follows:
1st row: With MC, ch 1. 2 sc in first sc. 1 sc in each sc to last sc. 2 sc in last sc. 8 sc. Turn.
2nd row: With B, ch 1. 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Turn.
3rd row: With A, ch 1. 1 sc in first sc. (2 sc in next sc. 1 sc in next sc) 4 times. Turn. 12 sc.
4th and 5th rows: With A, as 2nd row.
6th row: With C, ch 1. 2 sc in first sc. (1 sc in each of next 2 sc. 2 sc in next sc) 3 times. 1 sc in each of last 2 sc. 16 sc. Turn.
7th and 8th rows: With A, as 2nd row.
9th row: With A, ch 1. 2 sc in first sc. (1 sc in each of next 3 sc. 2 sc in next sc) 3 times. 1 sc in each of last 3 sc. 20 sc. Turn.
10th row: With B, as 2nd row.
11th row: With MC, as 2nd row.

Pansy Motifs: Make 4 each Pansy I and II
Pansy I
With C, ch 4. Join with sl st to form a ring.
1st rnd: Ch 1. (2 sc in ring. Ch 2) 5 times. Join with sl st to first sc. Break C.
2nd rnd: Join B with sl st to any ch 2 sp. Ch 2. (2 hdc. Ch 3. 1 sl st in first ch – Picot made. 3 hdc) all in same ch 2 sp. [Miss next sc. 1 sc in next sc. (3 hdc. Picot. 3 hdc) all in next ch 2 sp] twice. [Miss next sc. 1 sc in next sc. (1 hdc. 9 dc. 1 hdc) all in next ch 2 sp] twice. Miss next sc. 1 sc in next sc. Join with sl st to top of ch 2. Fasten off.
Pansy II
Work as given for Pansy I substituting B for C and C for B.
With Yellow, embroider center of Pansy using bullion st as illustrated.
Sew on 1 Pansy II and 4 Pansies I at bottom of Towel Topper and 1 Pansy IIat top of Towel Topper as illustrated. Fold loop in half to WS and sew button in position. Gather tea towel to fit and sew in position.
Square Pot Holder
***With MC, ch 24.
1st row: (RS). 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each sc to end of row. 23 sc. Turn.
2nd row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Turn.
Rep last row twice more.
Next row: With A, as 2nd row.
Next row: With MC, as 2nd row.
Next row: With D, as 2nd row.
Next row: With MC, as 2nd row.
Rep last row 16 times more. Fasten off.
With RS of work facing, join B with sl st to any corner.
1st rnd: With B, ch 1. 3 sc in same sp as last sl st. 1 sc in each st around working 3 sc in corners.
2nd rnd: Ch 1. Working from left to right, instead of from right to left as usual, work 1 sc in each sc around. Join with sl st to first sc. Ch 10 for hanging loop. Join with sl st to first ch. Fasten off.
Beg with 6th st from left edge, with A and D embroider chain st 1 st apart as illustrated.
Sew Pansy I in position at top corner with loop as illustrated.
