GAUGE

7 sc and 8½ rows = 4 ins [10 cm] with larger hook and 3 strands of yarn.

INSTRUCTIONS

Oven Mitt
With 3 strands of A, ch 15. Join with sl st to form a ring.
1st rnd: Ch 1. 1 sc in each ch around. Join with sl st to first sc. 16 sc.
2nd rnd: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc around. Join MC with sl st to first sc. Break A.
3rd rnd: With 3 strands of MC, ch 1. 1 sc in each sc around. Join with sl st to first sc.
Rep last rnd 4 times more.
Shape thumb gusset: 1st rnd: Ch 1. 1 sc in each of next 7 sc. (2 sc in next sc) twice. 1 sc in each of next 7 sc. Join with sl st to first sc.
2nd rnd: Ch 1. 1 sc in each of next 7 sc. 2 sc in next sc. 1 sc in each of next 2 sc. 2 sc in next sc. 1 sc in each of next 7 sc. Join with sl st to first sc.
3rd rnd: Ch 1. 1 sc in each of next 7 sc. 2 sc in next sc. 1 sc in each of next 4 sc. 2 sc in next sc. 1 sc in each of next 7 sc. Join with sl st to first sc.
4th rnd: Ch 1. 1 sc in each of next 7 sc. 2 sc in next sc. 1 sc in each of next 6 sc. 2 sc in next sc. 1 sc in each of next 7 sc. Join with sl st to first sc.
5th rnd: Ch 1. 1 sc in each of next 7 sc. (Place marker for thumb). Miss next 8 sc. 1 sc in each of next 7 sc. 16 sc. Join with sl st to first sc.
6th rnd: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc around. Join with sl st to first sc.
Cont even until Mitt from beg measures 8 ins [20.5 cm].
Proceed as follows:
1st rnd: Ch 1. Draw up a loop in each of first 2 sts. Yoh and draw through all loops on hook – sc2tog made. 1 sc in each of next 4 sc. (Sc2tog over next 2 sc) twice. 1 sc in each of next 4 sc. Sc2tog over next 2 sc. 12 sts. Join with sl st to first st.
2nd rnd: Ch 1. Sc2tog over first 2 sts. 1 sc in each of next 2 sc. (Sc2tog over next 2 sts) twice. 1 sc in each of next 2 sc. Sc2tog over next 2 sc. 8 sts. Join with sl st to first st. Fasten off.
Sew top seam.
Thumb: Join 3 strands of MC with sl st at marked sc for Thumb.
1st rnd: Ch 1. 1 sc in same sp as last sl st. 1 sc in each sc around. Join with sl st to first sc. 8 sc.
Rep last rnd until Thumb measures 2½ ins [6 cm].
Next rnd: Ch 1. (Sc2tog) 4 times. 4 sts. Fasten off leaving a long end.
Thread yarn through darning needle and draw through rem sts. Fasten tightly.
Pansy Motif
With single strand of B and smaller hook, ch 4. Join with sl st to form a ring.
1st rnd: Ch 1. (2 sc in ring. Ch 2) 5 times. Join with sl st to first sc. Break B.
2nd rnd: Join A with sl st to any ch 2 sp. Ch 2. (2 hdc. Ch 3. 1 sl st in first ch– Picot made. 3 hdc) all in same ch 2 sp. [Miss next sc. 1 sc in next sc. (3 hdc. Picot. 3 hdc) all in next ch 2 sp] twice. [Miss next sc. 1 sc in next sc. (1 hdc. 9 dc. 1 hdc) all in next ch 2 sp] twice. Miss next sc. 1 sc in next sc. Join with sl st to top of ch 2. Fasten off.
With Yellow, embroider center of Pansy using bullion st as illustrated.
Loop: With 3 strands of A, ch 12. Fasten off leaving a long end. Sew a loop to cast on edge as illustrated. Sew on Pansy Motif as illustrated.
