13 dc and 6 rows = 4 ins [10 cm].

INSTRUCTIONS

Note: When joining new color, work to last 2 loops on hook of last st. Draw new color through 2 loops, then proceed in new color. Carry color not in use across top of previous row and work sts around it to prevent stranding.
With B, ch 35.
1st row: (RS). 1 dc in 4th ch from hook (counts as 2 dc). 1 dc in next ch. Join A. *With A, 1 dc in each of next 3 ch. Join B. With B, 1 dc in each of next 3 ch. Join A. Rep from * across. Turn. 33 dc.
2nd row: With A, ch 3 (counts as dc). 1 dc in each of next 2 dc. *Join C. With C, 1 dc in each of next 3 dc. Join A. With A, 1 dc in each of next 3 dc. Rep from * to end of row. Join B. Turn.
3rd row:With B, ch 3 (counts as dc). 1 dc in each of next 2 dc. Join A. *With A, 1 dc in each of next 3 dc. Join B. With B, 1 dc in each of next 3 dc. Join A. Rep from * to end of row. Turn.**
Rep 2nd and 3rd rows for Gingham Pat until work from beg measures approx 10 ins [25.5 cm], ending with a 2nd row of pat.
Fasten off.
Edging: 1st rnd: (RS). Join C with sl st in any corner. Ch 1. 3 sc in same sp. Work sc around, having 3 sc in corners. Join with sl st to first sc.
2nd rnd: Ch 1. Working from left to right, instead of from right to left as usual, work 1 reverse sc in each sc around. Join with sl st to first sc. Fasten off.
