Adorable duck toy is great for a little boy or girl. Alternately, stuff with catnip and make a toy for kitty. Made in Lily Sugar ’n Cream with size 4.5 mm (U.S. 7) crochet hook. Ribbon 14 in [35.5 cm] long, 3/8 in [1 cm] wide required.

Abbreviations

Adjustable-ring method = Wrap yarn into a ring, ensuring that the tail falls behind the working yarn. Grip ring and tail firmly between middle finger and thumb. Insert hook through center of ring, yarn over (with working yarn) and draw up a loop. Work stitches of first round in the ring. After the first round of stitches is worked, pull gently, but firmly, on tail to tighten ring

18 sc and 20 rows = 4 ins [10 cm].

INSTRUCTIONS

(Make 2 pieces alike).
With MC, ch 11.
1st row: (RS). 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each ch to end of ch. Turn. 10 sc.
2nd row: Ch 1. 2 sc in first sc. 1 sc in each sc to last sc. 2 sc in last sc.
Rep last row 3 times more.
Next row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc to end of row.
Rep last row 6 times more.

Tail: Next row: (RS). Ch 1. 1 sc in each of next 6 sc. Draw up a loop in each of next 2 sts. Yoh and draw through all loops on hook – sc2tog made. Turn. Leave rem sts unworked.
Next row: Ch 1. Sc2tog over first 2 sts. 1 sc in each of next 3 sc. Sc2tog over last 2 sts. Turn.
Next row: Ch 1. Sc2tog over first 2 sts. 1 sc in next sc. Sc2tog over last 2 sts. Turn.
Next row: Ch 1. 1 sc in first sc. Sc2tog over last 2 sts. Turn.

Joining Back and Front: Place Back and Front tog. Join MC with ss to first ch of foundation ch, working through both thicknesses. Ch 1. 1 sc in same sp as first ss. 1 sc in each sp around, working 3 sc in top of Tail and point of nose. Stuff lightly before closing up duck. Join with ss to first sc. Fasten off.
With A, embroider eye as illustrated. Tie ribbon around neck.
