Size US K-10.5 (6.5 mm) crochet hook, or size needed to obtain gauge. 4 stitch markers. Yarn needle.

GAUGE

In single crochet, 12 sts and 13 rows = 4"/10cm.

Gauge is not critical for this project.

INSTRUCTIONS

NOTE

To change color, work last stitch of old color to last yarn over. Yarn over with new color and draw through all loops on hook to complete stitch. Proceed with new color. Do not fasten off old color.

 

THROW

With B, ch 164.

Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each remaining ch across, turn—163 sc.

Rows 2 and 3: Ch 1, sc in each sc across, turn; change to A in last st of Row 3. Do not fasten off B, carry it across to the other side edge as you work Row 4, working over the strand every few stitches.

Note: In the next row, stitches are worked into the previous row (Row 3) as usual, and post stitches are worked around stitches 3 rows below (Row 1). If you are not explicitly instructed to work into (or skip) stitches "3 rows below", work into (or skip) stitches of the previous row (Row 3).

Row 4 (RS): With A, ch 1, sc in first 2 sts, FPtr around first sc 3 rows below, sk next 4 sc 3 rows below, FPtr around next sc 3 rows below, *sk next 2 sc, sc in next 4 sc, FPtr around next sc 3 rows below, sk next 4 sc 3 rows below, FPtr around next sc 3 rows below; repeat from * across to last 5 sc, sk next 2 sc, sc in last 3 sts, turn; change to B in last st. Do not fasten off A, carry it across to the other side edge as you work Row 5, working over the strand every few stitches.

Row 5: With B, ch 1, sc in each st across, turn. Drop, but do not fasten off A, leave it on this edge.

Rows 6 and 7: With B, ch 1, sc in each st across, turn; change to A in last st of Row 7. Do not fasten off B, carry it across to the other side edge as you work Row 4, working over the strand every few stitches.

Note: In the next row, stitches are worked into the previous row (Row 7) as usual, and post stitches are worked around stitches 3 rows below (Row 5). If you are not explicitly instructed to work into (or skip) stitches "3 rows below", work into (or skip) stitches of the previous row (Row 7).

Row 8: With A, Ch 1, FPtr around 3rd sc 3 rows below, sk first st, sc in next 4 sc, *FPtr around next sc 3 rows below, sk next 4 sc 3 rows below, FPtr around next sc 3 rows below, sk next 2 sc, sc in next 4 sc; repeat from * across to last 2 sc, FPtr around next sc 3 rows below, sk next sc, sc in last sc, turn; change to B in last st. Do not fasten off A, carry it across to the other side edge as you work Row 9, working over the strand every few stitches.

Rows 9–11: Repeat Rows 5–7.

Repeat Rows 4–11 twenty-four times.

Repeat Rows 4–8; do not turn at the end of the last row.

Fasten off A. Do not fasten off B.

Border

Round 1 (RS): With B, and working around all edges of throw *3 sc in corner, place a marker in the center st of 3-sc group just made, sc evenly spaced across edge to next corner; repeat from * around; join with sl st in first sc.

Round 2: Working in front loops only, sl st in each st around; join with sl st in first sl st. Fasten off B.

Round 3: With RS facing, and working in free back loops of Round 1, join A with sl st in any marked corner st, ch 4 (counts as tr), 2 tr in same st, tr in each st to next marked st, *3 tr in marked st, tr in each st to next marked st; repeat from * around; join with sl st in top of beginning ch. Fasten off A.

Round 4: With RS facing, and working in front loops of Round 3, join B with sl st in any st, sl st in each st around; join with sl st in first sl st. Fasten off B.

 

Ribbing Border

Notes:

1. The ribbing is worked back and forth in rows, at right angles to the edges of the throw. At the end of every other row, the ribbing is joined to the edge of the throw by working a sl st into a free back loop of Round 3 of border.

2. Each row of the ribbing is worked in the back loops only to form the ribs.

Work First Corner of Ribbing

With RS facing, join A with sl st in free back loop of the first tr of any 3-tr corner of Round 3.

Ribbing Row 1: Ch 9, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each remaining ch across, sl st in next free back loop of Round 3 (this should be the center tr of the 3-tr corner), turn—8 sc.

Ribbing Row 2: Ch 1, working in back loops only of previous ribbing row, sc in each st across, turn.

Ribbing Row 3: Ch 1, working in back loops only of previous ribbing row, sc in each st across, sl st in same (center) back loop of Round 3, turn.

Ribbing Row 4 and 5: Repeat Ribbing Rows 2 and 3.

Ribbing Row 6: Repeat Ribbing Row 2.

Ribbing Row 7: Ch 1, working in back loops only of previous ribbing row, sc in each st across, sl st in next free back loop of Round 3, turn.

Work Ribbing Across Side of Throw

Ribbing Row 8: Repeat Ribbing Row 2.

Ribbing Row 9: Ch 1, working in back loops only of previous ribbing row, sk next free back loop of Round 3, sl st in next free back loop of Round 3, turn.

Repeat Ribbing Rows 8 and 9 across to next 3-tr corner of Round 3, working last sl st of last Ribbing Row 9 in the back loop of the center tr of the 3-tr corner.

Continue Ribbing all the way Around Throw

Beginning with Ribbing Row 2, repeat this process all the way around.

Fasten off A, leaving a 6"/15cm tail. Sew last ribbing row to first ribbing row, working from WS and sewing through back loops only.

 

FINISHING

Using yarn needle, weave in all ends. Block lightly, if desired.
