Abbreviations

Ch(s) = Chain(s)

Dc = double crochet

Dc3tog = (Yoh and draw up a loop in next st. Yoh and draw through 2 loops on hook) 3 times. Yoh and draw through all loops on hook.

sc = single crochet

Skp = Slip 1 stitch knitwise, k1, pass slipped stitch over. (1 stitch decreased)

Sl st = Slip stitch

ssk = Slip next 2 stitches knitwise one at a time. Pass them back onto left-hand needle, then knit through back loops together.

One size US J-10 (6mm), or size to obtain gauge.Yarn needle.

GAUGE

In pattern, 12 sts and 10 rows = 4"/10cm.

INSTRUCTIONS

To change color, work last stitch of old color to last yarn over. Yarn over with new color and draw through all loops on hook to complete stitch. Proceed with new color. Do not fasten off old color. Carry colors not in use loosely up side of piece.

 

THROW

With A, ch 141.

Row 1 (RS): With A, dc in 4th ch from hook (beginning ch counts as dc) and in each remaining ch across, turn—139 dc.

Row 2: Ch 2 (counts as first dc here and throughout), *2 dc in next dc, ch 1, sk next 3 dc, 2 dc in next dc, dc in next dc; repeat from * across; change to B in last st, turn—116 dc and 23 ch-1 sps.

Row 3: With B, ch 1, sc in first 3 dc, working in front of next ch-1 sp, dc3tog over 3 skipped sts 2 rows below, *sc in next 5 dc, working in front of next ch-1 sp, dc3tog over 3 skipped sts 2 rows below; repeat from * across to last 3 dc, sc in last 3 dc, turn—139 sts.

Row 4: Ch 2, dc in next 2 sc, dc in next dc3tog, *2 dc in next sc, ch 1, sk next 3 sc, 2 dc in next sc, dc in next dc3tog; repeat from * across to last 3 sc, dc in last 3 sc; change to C in last st, turn—117 dc and 22 ch-1 sps.

Row 5: With C, ch 1, sc in first 6 dc, *working in front of next ch-1 sp, dc3tog over 3 skipped sts 2 rows below, sc in next 5 sc; repeat from * across to last dc, sc in last dc, turn.

Row 6: Ch 2, 2 dc in next sc, ch 1, sk next 3 sc, 2 dc in next sc, *dc in next dc3tog, 2 dc in next sc, ch 1, sk next 3 sc, 2 dc in next sc; repeat from * across to last sc, dc in last sc; change to A in last st, turn.

Rows 7 and 8: With A, repeat Rows 3 and 4; change to B in last st of Row 8.

Rows 9 and 10: With B, repeat Rows 5 and 6; change to C in last st of Row 10.

Rows 11 and 12: With C, repeat Rows 3 and 4; change to A in last st of Row 12.

Rows 13 and 14: With A, repeat Rows 5 and 6; change to B in last st of Row 14.

Rows 15–146: Repeat Rows 3–14 eleven more times

Rows 147–151: Repeat Rows 3–7.

Row 152: With A, ch 3, dc in each st across. Fasten off.

 

FINISHING

Border

With RS facing, join A with sl st in any corner, to work in ends of rows across side edge.

Round 1: Ch 1, [3 sc in corner; working across side edge, 2 sc in end of each dc row and sc in end of each sc row to next corner, 3 sc in corner; working across next edge, sc in each st or ch across] twice; join with sl st in first sc.

Round 2: (Sl st, ch 4, dc, ch 1, dc, ch 1, dc) in next sc (center sc of corner 3-sc), **sk next 2 sc, *(dc, ch 1, dc) in next sc, sk next 2 sc; repeat from * across to next corner, ([dc, ch 1] 3 times, dc) in corner sc; repeat from ** 2 more times, sk next 2 sc, ***(dc, ch 1, dc) in next sc, sk next 2 sc; repeat from *** across to first corner; join with sl st in 3rd ch of beginning ch-4. Note: Skip more or fewer stitches at corners to ensure that ([dc, ch 1] 3 times, dc) is worked in each corner.

Round 3: (Sc, ch 3, sc) in each ch-1 sp around; join with sl st in first sc.

Fasten off.

 

Using yarn needle, weave in ends. Block gently, if desired.
