Size U.S. G/6 (4 mm) crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge. 4 stitch markers. 7" [18 cm] zipper. Small amount of black embroidery floss for embroidery.

GAUGE

15 sc and 16 rows = 4” [10 cm].

INSTRUCTIONS

Alligator Body (make 2)
With MC, ch 2.
1st row: (RS). 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Turn. 3 sc.
2nd and alt rows: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Turn.
3rd row: Ch 1. 2 sc in first sc. 1 sc in next sc. 2 sc in last sc. Turn. 5 sc.
5th and 7th rows: Ch 1. 2 sc in first sc. 1 sc in each sc to last sc. 2 sc in last sc. Turn. 9 sc at end of 7th row.
9th row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc to last sc. 2 sc in last sc. Turn. 10 sc.
10th row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Turn.
Rep last 2 rows 4 times more. 14 sc at end of last row. Place marker at beg of last row.
Next row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Turn.
Rep last row until work from marker measures 4" [10 cm], ending on a WS row.
Shape Head: 1st row: (RS). Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc to last 3 sc. Sc3tog. Turn. 12 sts. Place marker at end of row.
2nd row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each st to last 2 sc. Sc2tog. Turn. 11 sts.
3rd row: Ch 1. Sc2tog. 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Turn. 10 sts.
4th row: As 2nd row. 9 sts.
5th row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each st to end of row. Turn.
Rep last row until work from 2nd marked row measures 3” [7.5 cm], ending on a RS row.
Next row: (WS). Skip first sc. 6 dc in next sc. Sl st in next sc. 1 sc in each sc to last 2 sc. Sc2tog. Fasten off.

‘Scales’: With RS facing, join MC with sl st to top of Head at marker.
1st row: Ch 1. Work 29 sc evenly along top edge of Alligator to approx 2” [5 cm] from end of tail. Turn.
2nd row: Skip first sc. *3 hdc in next sc. Sl st in each of next 3 sc.
Rep from * to end of row. Fasten off.
Rep for other side.

Eyes (make 2)
With A, ch 3.
1st rnd: 8 hdc in 3rd ch from hook.
Join with sl st to first hdc. Fasten off.
With black embroidery floss, embroider pupil as shown in photo.

Finishing
With WS tog, join MC with sl st to Tail where ‘Scales’ end (2” [5 cm] from end of Tail). Ch 1. Working through both thicknesses, work 1 row of sc to join pieces along bottom of Alligator, around snout to top of Head at marked row.
Fasten off.
With black embroidery floss, embroider mouth using straight st, being careful to not sew through both thicknesses. With A, embroider teeth.
Sew in zipper along top opening.

Feet (make 2)
With MC, ch 6.
1st row: 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each ch to end of ch. Turn. 5 sc.
2nd row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Turn.
3rd and 4th rows: Ch 1. 1 sc in each of next 3 sc. Turn. Fasten off.
Sew Feet to bottom of Body as shown in picture.
