Big News at The Prime Blogger Event

This year at CHA (Crafts & Hobbies Association’s convention) we were all about the bulk, ’bout the bulk, ’bout the Bernat-Mega-Bulk-y. Ouch, that one even hurt me as I typed it. I apologize.

Big knits are on-trend right now with a huge presence on the runway, Pinterest, and fashion blogs alike. Bernat, Mega Bulky is like a ball of BOLD — for you, dear knitter, crocheter and crafter — to create something that’s both en vogue, and uniquely you. This was the gospel that Yarnspirations.com (via Web Marketing dude Rob Aoki and yours truly) brought to share with the room full of designers who attended Prime Publishing’s (parent company of FaveCrafts.com, AllFreeKnitting.com, and AllFreeCrochet.com to name a few) annual Blogger Networking Event. We came armed to the teeth with a bevvy of finger-knit Mega Bulky bangles to hand out. Our message was simple: creative types think big! Wear it with pride.

Here are some of the many faces of designers we chatted with about what they might do with Mega Bulky yarn — knit, crochet, macrame, yarn-wrap, latch hook? I can’t wait to see what these crafty minds come up with!

Wanna finger knit a bangle? Here’s how: (Psst…this is a great project for kids, too!)

Featured Yarn

1 Ball (makes many) Bernat Mega Bulky(100% Acrylic; 300 g/58 m/64 yds)

Large-eyed yarn needle

FINISHED MEASUREMENT

8”/20 cm –or desired circumference

DIRECTIONS

Step 1: Leaving about a 6”/15 cm tail, lay the yarn across the palm of your non-dominant hand and between the index finger and middle finger.

Step 2: Using dominant hand, wrap counter-clockwise around the index finger on non-dominant hand.

Step 3: Weave yarn under and over next 2 fingers; come up and around ring finger.

Step 4: Weave back in the opposite direction over next two fingers (middle and pointer.) You’ll now have loops on all fingers except for thumb and pinky.

Step 5: Lay the yarn across your fingers, above the loops.

Step 6: Lift your pointer finger loop over the yarn, and let it drop off your finger.

Step 7: Continuing as in Step 6, lift the loop over yarn and let it drop off the ring and middle fingers.

Repeat Steps 5-7 until piece measures 8”/20 cm — or desired wrist circumference.

Fasten off by cutting yarn, leaving 6”/15 cm tail; weave tail through loops, letting them fall off fingers; pull tight.

FINISHING

Seam ends together to form bracelet.

Weave in ends.

Optional: Embellish with beads or sequin.

If you make a Mega Bulky Bangle, or anything else with Mega Bulky yarn (go here for more project inspiration), be sure to snap a photo and hashtag #yarnspirations and #madewithlove so we see it!
