Last Minute Mittens

It's not quite officially winter, but the freezing temperatures outside haven't received the memo. Not good if you're like me and have young kids who have either a.) lost one mitten and need a replacement or b.) lost both mittens and need replacements.

So I needed to quickly knit up some warm mittens for some very cold fingers. The

Mostly I've made mittens for my boys and a few fingerless gloves for the men in the family, but never have I made mittens for myself.  To that end, I

Don't fail me now

Common sense isn't always common to everyone. I think experience is where one obtains common sense. It's kind of like wisdom in that way.

When I came up against a challenge in finding just the right mitten pattern I determined that combining two would get the job done.

Trouble with a capital T

I love it when knitting kicks me in the arse. If I don’t tell myself that then I would just quit doing this craft/art that we love and I know that would not be good for me. In that case, I’ll say it again. I love it when knitting kicks me in the arse.

Let me share with you Exhibit

Nearly FO – Convertible goodness

A person needs to use their fingers now and again to grab the pull-start-cordy thingy (technical term) to start a snow blower, or to use keys to get the car started for their spouse.

Enter the convertible mitten. Using Patons Classic Wool Tweeds in Chestnut Tweed I decided that my DH needed a pair of these mittens

Man handled

When I first saw this book with all of its pattern options I could not get my mitts on it fast enough. I have a fondness for mittens – not really sure why, but I have always loved them. Maybe it is because my mom knit us a new pair almost every year or maybe it’s

Cold Hands – Warm Heart

You can warm a heart by giving someone a way of keeping their hands warm. Mittens are an inexpensive and quick way to offer a handmade gift to someone.

Do you have someone on your gift list that you need to get something finished for in a hurry? Mittens are a good option. That said, they make great charity knits

Michigan IS the Mitten State after all

I love mittens. I live in the palm of a mitten, have traveled to the thumb, the cuff, the pinky and most certainly to the tip. (For those of you who don’t know where Michigan is, check out a map of the U.S., Michigan is the state that looks just like a mitten, it’s a peninsula sandwiched between

Smitten

The weather has become a little nippy and it was time to assess my winter accessories situation. Hats? Check. Scarves? Check. Mittens? Oh dear.

The situation is dire. This right here is the first pair of mittens I have ever knit. Sure, there's nothing wrong with them per se,

It’s not you. Really. It’s me.

I met someone else. Maybe it was a fear of commitment, I’m not sure. I don’t even know how it happened. No! He’s not better looking! Like I said, it’s not you. It’s me. I’m so sorry.

At first it was just a look. Then we started chatting and flirting a little. Pretty soon it developed into spending some time

Slow progress

Last week I showed you a photo of the Cable Wrist Warmer and I am making some progress. I have toyed with starting the second one, out of sheer terror of second mitten syndrome (I do have another set of size 8 DPNs). You've heard of second sock syndrome, right? It's when you knit only one of a
