Why do I love spring? Because I can finally take my knitting outside. After all these months of knitting on my corner on the couch, in the car at carpool, wherever, but always inside, I can now move my knitting to my favorite place on earth. My backyard deck.

This past weekend, with it finally getting to be spring enough, I picked myself a big bouquet from the garden--roses, peonies and wisps of coral bells--and settled in for some afternoon knitting. Since I can't have the flowers in the house--allergies--I keep arrangements from the garden here on the deck, where I can enjoy them without my eyes watering. Then I picked up my Lacy Top and began knitting the second piece. This project is like socks in that you knit two identical pieces. So like socks, I decided to start knitting the second one before I finished the first so I wouldn't get "Second Side Syndrome."

The 2x2 ribbing is wonderful in that you can sit, knit and do nothing more than watch the big ships coming through Puget Sound or the birds in my new birdbath.

Yes, I am glad spring is finally here. Do you have a favorite spot outside to knit?

Lovely knitting, lovely view. I like to sit on my front porch and knit. It's just a concrete square in front of a suburban box, with a view of the neighbours, but it is bright and sheltered and I can sit out there in all kinds of weather and get a little Vitamin D, and enjoy the colours of my yarns.

Julie, that sounds lovely. I wish I had a place where I could do that year round. In Seattle, when the sun shines, one gets out!

My favorite place to knit is also on my deck, looking out to Puget Sound.

Terri, I look at Vashon Island just south of the ferry docks, what do you look over at?
