A New Face!

Hello everyone!

My name is Kristin (KristinR) and I am thrilled to announce my debut as a Bernat blogger! There is an incredible group of talented people here, and I am honored to join with them in showing how we use Bernat yarns to create our projects.

I am first and foremost a crocheter, though I love to knit and spin as well.  My grandmother taught me to crochet when I was just 10 years old.  I love that this craft has been passed down to me through the generations, and that it is something I can hand down to my children as well.  Both enjoyable and useful, there isn't much that time spent with yarn and hook can't fix.

I focus a lot on the quiet comfort of crocheting, though I do occasionally listen to audio books while I work.  I especially enjoy working on heirloom pieces with quality yarn that I know will last so that the hard work I put into my pieces can be enjoyed through the years.

My two beautiful girls keep me on my toes, as does my military husband, but I wouldn't have it any other way.  When I am not working with fiber arts, cooking for my family, or cuddling with my littles, I enjoy painting, writing, sewing, quilting, scrapbooking and reading.  Inspired by my oldest daughter, who has Autism, I work part time as a special needs photographer.  At the end of the day when the sun sets, our bodies are nourished with good food, and the rush of the day has past, I love to snuggle up on the couch with my family, pick up my crocheting, and catch up on our time together.

I know that I am going to thoroughly enjoy trying new yarns from Bernat, and working with some of my classic favorites.  I really enjoy experimenting with Bernat patterns as well, and can't wait to share my adventures along this tour of "string and hooks" as my husband calls it.  Here's to a new journey!  Cheers!

Hi Kristin, I can't wait to read about your projects and get to know you! I have a feeling that you are going to inspire me to learn to crochet. Being a special needs photographer sounds very interesting - I've done a lot of work advocating for children with disabilities and I've never come across a special needs photographer - what a great idea!

Welcome Kristin! :) I can't wait to see what you make on the blog! By the way, I have a grown son with Asperger's Syndrome. He is now 24, and is taking the world by storm. This year, he is graduating from college with a degree in bio-chemistry. I can't believe how far he has come.

Thank you ladies! :) I'm very excited about this opportunity, and can't wait to get started on my posts. I have a lot of fun projects in mind already!

Welcome Kristin! Looking forward to reading about your projects. Let the adventure begin. :)

I'm just getting back into knitting after a long absence. I notice my local stores no longer carry Bernat Aero needles. I read on a blog somewhere that Bernat had moved that part of their operation to Canada. Do you know if they still make those needles and where I can buy them? If they sold that part of their organization, does anyone know who bought it? They are wonderful needles. Thanks for any advice you can give me.

Hi Monica - Bernat doesn't make needles at this point, but I can look into it and see if those needles are available somewhere else. A quick google search for "Aero Knitting Needles" found several online stores for purchasing them. Hope those are what you're looking for!
