Well, toddlers can be monsters, LOL!  Ask me how I know?

Seriously though, a cute monster vest would aptly suite any toddler.  This project intrigues me for several reasons: new yarn (yay Baby Cakes), vibrant colours and no sleeves--yay!!  And I've been doing a lot of crochet lately, so it'll be nice to knit again.

Hoping the vest will be a quick knit (Maybe.  Maybe not.).   After swatching ('cuz I always swatch for garments), I found I had to go down almost one full size: instead of using 4.mm, I'm down to 3.75mm (haven't used that size needle in ages).  So it'll take me a little longer to get through an inch's worth.  It's tough being a loose knitter . . . At least the Baby Cakes feels very nice.  It's smoother than a worsted cotton and feels softer, so it should make a lovely fabric.  And the colours . . . so vibrant!

And while we're on the topic of colour, this knit will provide an interesting colour work challenge.   I'll be using intarsia to complete the striping panel running vertically along the left side of the vest.  For me, it's a new technique to master.  I'll have to wrap the colours around each other on the wrong side to prevent holes.  I'm up for the challenge.  How 'bout you?

How adorable and I love the other patterns in the book! With four grandchildren I'm sure I can knit some friendly monster vests and toys. I'll be looking for that pattern book. Thanks.

Yup, there sure are some nice patterns in the book, and the toys are so cute. I've been eyeing the watermelon sweater too. I know a couple of girls who would look lovely in it. :)
