Candle Amigurumi - designed by Tracie Barrett

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS: Amigurumi measures approximately 2”/5cm high

YARN: Caron International's Simply Soft: #9605 Mango (A), #9727 Black (B), #0001 Vanilla (C)

CROCHET HOOK: One size US E-4 (3.5 mm), or size to obtain gauge.

 

ADDITIONAL MATERIALS: Yarn needle, Fiberfill stuffing, Stitch marker,

GAUGE: 20 sts and 23 rows sc = 4"/10cm. Exact gauge is not critical for this project, stitching should be tight.

STITCHES USED: Chain (ch),  Single crochet (sc), Slip stitch (slip st)

SPECIAL TERMS: sc2tog: Single crochet 2 together—Insert hook in next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop (two loops on hook), insert hook into next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and draw through all three loops on hook.

NOTE: Do not join rounds. Place a marker in the last stitch of round and move up as rounds progress.

 

AMIGURUMI

 

Flame

With A, ch 2.

Round 1: 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook, do not join—3 sc. Place marker in last stitch.

Round 2: 2 sc in each sc around—6 sc.

Rounds 3-4: Sc in each sc around.

Round 5: [Sc2tog over next 2 sts] around—3 sc.

Fasten off. Weave in end.

Candle

Starting at top with C, ch 2.

Round 1: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, do not join—6 sc. Place marker in last stitch.

Round 2: 2 sc in each sc around—12 sc.

Round 3: *Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc; repeat from * around—18 sc.

Round 4: Sc in back loop only of each sc around.

Rounds 5-10: Working in both loops of sts, sc in each sc around.

Fasten off leaving a long sewing length. With yarn needle and sewing length, sew flame to top of candle. With yarn needle and B, work French knots for eyes and back st a mouth on candle as pictured.

 

Base

With B, ch 2.

Round 1: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, do not join—6 sc. Place marker in last stitch.

Round 2: 2 sc in each sc around—12 sc.

Round 3: *Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc; repeat from * around—18 sc.

Round 4: Working in front loops only, *sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc; repeat from * around—24 sc.

Round 5: Working in both loops of sts, *sc in each of next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc; repeat from * around—30 sc.

Round 6: Sc in each sc around, join with sl st in next sc.

Fasten off. Weave in ends.

 

FINISHING:  Stuff candle lightly. Using yarn needle, whipstitch bottom of candle to unused loops on base. Weave in ends. Roll in hands to evenly distribute stuffing.
