Whew! Fixing the Girl's Beret to actually fit my daughter's head was not nearly the challenge I expected it to be. I ripped back the picot row, and the three single crochet rows before that. I compared what was left to a slouchy beret she already had - it wasn't too far off and only needed some decreasing and a few more rows. The final adjustment was adding one decrease row of 1 hdc decrease every 10 stitches and then 4 rows of working even hdc. I continued with the pattern ending of the 3 single crochet rows and the picot row - DONE!
It looks super cute. Next time around, I would use a hook that is at least an I or a J hook with the Baby Cakes yarn rather than an H hook. The hat does have more "form" than "slouch" to it for my daughter's preference. Oh - and while she deigned to wear the hat "as-is" for photo purposes, she is not a fan of the picots, so they'll be pulled out by tonight. Too bad - I really think those finish the hat off so nicely.
